Monastery of Santa María de El Parral in Segovia

Without a doubt, one of the great surprises that your Segovia excursion, in the surroundings of Madrid, is the Monastery of Santa María del Parral, which you find on the bank of river Eresma, at the foot of the hill where the city of Segovia is located.

This great monastic building was commanded to build in 1447 for who would later become King Henry IV. When it was over, already under the reign of Isabel of Castile, the monastery was run by the Order of the Jeronimos.

Eleven currently live in the monastery jerome monks in his usual regime of closure and silence.

But this does not stop you from visit the Parral Monastery, as it is best known, where you will surely be surprised inside imposing gothic church, with a great 16th century altarpiece and its two large graves, which make up a spectacular artistic ensemble.

And, also, at the entrance to the monastery grounds you will discover a beautifulpanoramic view of the Alcazar of Segovia, in the surroundings of a porch and gardens with a pond, a view that takes you to the time of the Catholic kings.
